Crop Snapshot - Summer  2009 - Updated 26 Sep 2009

A crop snapshot' rather than a lengthy report! Please contact us if you would like comprehensive market information, -the market constantly changes, particularly in such a difficult season as this!

Fruit A-G Fruit H-Z Vegetables

Fruits A - G

Apple

A good harvest in Western Europe so it's good to see prices easing on all types of apple. We have Jon-o-gold dice and slice, Bramley, Ida red and English Cox

Apricot

Limited crop this year with strong demand for halves. Diced stock appears to be dwindling.

Banana

The Vietnamese crop was very good but finished now until the New Year, but product is available from central America. Definite upward pressure on price from the growers.

Blackberries

Large volumes available from China and Serbia, keeping prices down. Quality is better than ever. We also have very good English produced fruit now.

Blackcurrants

The harvest in Poland was only average with some poor fruit, (picked in the rain) and we expect this to go short in the New Year. There is to counter this, some excellent English fruit available. Orices are down on last year.

Blueberries

Wild blueberries from the USA/Canada are half last years price with another crop due next month. There are large stocks available. Cultivated Blueberries are coming from every where and prices continue to fall, but there are concerns over USA fruit not complying with EEC pesticide regulations.

Cherry

Morello (red sour) is available from large crops of good quality fruit from Denmark, Poland and Serbia. Prices are down and stocks are high.

Sweet cherries - only an average harvest in Europe and there seems to be a problem with Turkish fruit with several loads found to contain maggots, so beware cheap fruit!

Cranberries

Prices falling with the onset of a new crop. Plenty of good quality fruit both sliced and IQF.

Gooseberry

Not a large crop this year, but demand is low, could be interesting in the New Year. A lot of British fruit was not harvested as there was little demand.
